Christmas Fun
Christmas time:
unwrapped presents
and empty glasses
a dirty table cloth
and broken crackers
Dad's asleep
and so's the cat
and there's a general air of
'we're going to be fat
tomorrow morning when the sky is clear
and there is still no snow
and there is no more beer'
The Queen's speech is on
but no one cares
The tinsel has fallen
off the stairs
The Christmas tree has blown a light
And the children have begun to fight
Mum watches, filled with despair
it's Christmas Day! This isn't fair
It should be filled with love and laughter
not screams and tears and cries after
a toy has been broken, smashed to bits
with both the children throwing fits
One day a year, she mutters under breath
Tomorrow she can finally rest
When things are normal once again
No more stress, no more pain
But until that time, when the light is dim
She hunts out the bottle of gin
